 | ITALIAN ARCHITECTURE AND VIVIMED PHOTOCHROMIC DYES
LIGHT UP LONDON’S BELGRAVE SQUARE
On the 19th of June the Italian Cultural Institute unveils a new installation called Or2 within its premises on the occasion of the International showcase of the London Festival of Architecture.
 | The photochromic pergola created by Orproject, a London based practice led by architects and designers Francesco Brenta, Christoph Klemmt and Laura Micalizzi, uses special high performance photochromic dyes supplied by Vivimed Labs Ltd, and can be viewed under the portico of the Institute in Belgrave Square until the 4th of July.
The polygonal segments of the OR2 structure respond to sunlight.
The surface reacts to ultraviolet light, mapping the position and intensity of the solar rays. In the shade, the segments of OR2 are |
translucent white, when exposed to the sun they become intensely coloured, flooding the space below with a variety of colour light hues.
During the day the OR2 structure provides shade, at night it transforms into an enormous chandelier, disseminating light into the surrounding areas.
OR structures employ Vivimed Reversacol photo-reactive technology at an architectural scale, exploring its applicability to the fields of construction and design. The beauty of OR2
is its constant interaction with the elements. At each moment of the day, OR2's appearance is unique. | |
